As Check Fraud and Mail Theft Surge, PurseLink Offers a Safer, More Heartfelt Way to Give Money

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

A secure digital gift link — slipped into any greeting card or sent by email — with no cash to steal, no check to alter, and no app for the recipient to download.

DALLAS, TX — As federal authorities warn that mail theft and check fraud are climbing sharply, PurseLink offers families a way to give money that keeps the warmth of a card while leaving the cash and the paper check out of the mailbox.

The Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), in a joint alert with the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, reported that suspicious activity reports for check fraud filed by financial institutions rose from over 350,000 in 2021 to more than 680,000 in 2022 — nearly double in a single year. A common tactic, “check washing,” uses chemicals to erase a check’s payee and amount so thieves can rewrite it to themselves. Federal authorities, including the FBI and the Postal Service, now urge people to avoid mailing checks where possible and to choose electronic payment methods instead.

PurseLink was built for that shift — without losing the feeling of a gift. It lets anyone send money as a heartfelt gift, delivered as a secure link, printed inside any greeting card or sent by email. With no cash or check changing hands, there’s no bill to pocket and no paper to alter. The recipient opens the link and picks how to receive the money — Venmo, PayPal, Apple Pay, Cash App, or Google Pay — and the sender sends it directly. The money moves straight between them; PurseLink never holds the funds. Senders can add an optional claim code for extra protection, and there’s nothing for the recipient to download.

“I created PurseLink because I was tired of never knowing how to send cash as a gift,” said Marisa Trevino, creator of PurseLink. “Between the eye rolls from my kids when they’d open a card and find a check, to knowing better than to mail cash, to those awkward conversations asking ‘how should I send it?’ — I knew there was a better way. Giving money should feel personal, not complicated. PurseLink makes it painless, as long as both parties have access to cash-sending apps.”

PurseLink is live today. Every member’s first send is free; after that, a small flat delivery fee applies, and 100 percent of the gift reaches the recipient. Learn more at purselink.app.
